Build with great people

Don’t take it from us, take it from these people. They’re real members of the Igloo family, and they’ll tell you why they’ve scored big working here.

Sharon Maximovich
Line: Stairs
Position: Lead Hand
Drafted: 1997
As a 9-year veteran, and assistant captain of the stairs department, Sharon knows what it means to score big.
She loves her job. She got her start in the panel wall department as a builder and sawyer, made her way to Department 50—Northern Operations—to work in both quality control and Health Safety and Environment programs, and then headed back down to stairs as an assembler.
Sharon is responsible for winders (curved steps), pony walls, and window bucks, so she gets to be hands-on and actually build stairs. And her linemates and office staff, says Sharon, are an excellent crew to work with. Communication among line and teammates is extremely important to Sharon, and thankfully it’s abundant on Team Igloo. She also says her manager is simply “the best.”
Front-office staff is also amazing, says Sharon—especially Barry Stewart, part-owner of Team Igloo. He is very involved in team operations, and loves to check in with his lineups. He is also very personable, a rare feat when a team is part of the big leagues.

Barbra Doiron
Line: Drywall
Position: Controller
Drafted: 1997
Being a controller for Team Igloo’s drywall line keeps Barbra on her toes.
She’s currently involved in tax matters, budgeting and financial planning for all of Team Igloo’s operations, and running the Performance Drywall line.
Barbra got her start with Team Igloo in the summers between semesters while completing her BComm degree at the University of Alberta. Once she completed her academic training, she was brought on to play for the team full-time. With support from her Team Igloo family, she soon completed her CGA and became a full-fledged corporate accountant.
She enjoys playing for Team Igloo because she gets to do something different every day. Her linemates and teammates are like family, and are “great people,” she says.
Barbra doesn’t back down from a challenge. When Team Igloo added the Performance Drywall line to their team, she took on the job of integrating it into the Team Igloo system.
She may be tough, but she doesn’t throw any punches when she claims her boss is “the best”.

Tom Rooke
Line: Truss
Position: Production Manager
Drafted: 1995
Tom is goal-oriented. Team Igloo’s front office recognized this, and made him production manager for the truss line after 9 years with the team.
Other than being in a fast-paced and busy environment, Tom says the best part about playing for Team Igloo is that they have many opportunities for advancement, and try to promote from within the company. Case in point: he started with Team Igloo as a sawyer with the truss department, and moved into the front office after showing off his managerial talents.
Internal promotions, he says, “creates opportunity for existing employees,” which makes Igloo a great place to play.

Pat Jessome
Line:  Roof Truss
Position: Day-shift Foreman
Drafted: 2000
Pat’s leading his roof truss team to victory day in and day out.
He was drafted to the night shift as a rookie to the building trade, and yet learned the system in no time. Hoping to one day be captain, he worked hard, and was given a leadership role after three short years.
“Back in school, when you are asked what you want to be, I never knew what to say, but now I know this is it,” he says. “It was never my intention, but the opportunities at Igloo kept falling into my lap.”
Between following the order schedules and evaluating the work that’s already been done, Pat has to stay on his toes, since every day is different. Thankfully, his linemates are extremely trussworthy!

Russ Green
Line: Warehouse
Position: Supervisor
Drafted: 1987
As a one-time player, and current member of Igloo’s coaching staff, Russ knows what it means to be part of the Team Igloo family.
Having been on Team Igloo for 19 years, Russ has seen the company go through expansion. The reason why Team Igloo’s expansion has been so successful, he notes, is because their values have not changed. He was drafted into a “family”, and still works for one.
Keeping things in the family is key to the Igloo team, and Russ says that promoting from within is the way it’s done. There’s also plenty of potential for advancement, aptly proven with Russ’s personal advancement from player to coach.

John Guindon
Line: Door
Position: Shop supervisor
Drafted: 1999
John was drafted as a player for Team Igloo’s door line when only 2 people were in the lineup. Now there are 8, and he’s coaching them after only 7 years on the team.
The front office gives John the freedom to run his lineup his way, and that has ensured that his work atmosphere is positive and productive. He also really likes his fellow teammates, and appreciates Team Igloo’s family atmosphere.
